Hechimon Ash Glaze Wide Mouth Mug

£25.00

The carved ash glaze finish on this Hechimon mug is a study in what fire and skilled hands can produce together. Ash glazing is one of the oldest techniques in Japanese ceramics — unpredictable, elemental, and impossible to replicate exactly — and when combined with hand-carved surface texture, the result is a mug that feels genuinely alive to hold: layers of matt and shine, depth that shifts with the light, and a surface your hands want to keep returning to.

Compact and considered in scale, it holds 330ml comfortably — the right volume for a morning coffee, a careful pour of matcha, or anything else worth taking slowly. The proportions are slightly wider than tall, which gives it a settled, unhurried quality on a desk or table.

As with every piece in the Hechimon range, no two are the same. Each is made individually by hand, glazed, carved, and fired by a craftsperson making their own decisions at every stage. The Hechimon name — a Shigaraki word for things shaped by the wind — was coined precisely for this: objects that carry the mark of their making, and the particular character of the person who made them.

Made by Marui-Seito in Shigaraki Town, Shiga Prefecture. One of Japan's six ancient kiln traditions, with over 1,260 years of history and a national traditional craft designation since 1976.

Made in Japan. Approx. 11.5 × 8.5 × 9 cm, 330 ml capacity. Not suitable for microwave or dishwasher use. As each piece is handmade, dimensions, colour, and finish will vary slightly.
