Hechimon Tide Rock Cup
A cup with the quality of something found rather than made. The Tide Rock Cup from Hechimon carries the unhurried, elemental character that defines the best of Shigaraki ware — a surface that rewards closer inspection, a weight and warmth in the hand that makes whatever you pour into it feel more considered.
Sized for a generous measure of whisky on the rocks, sake, or whatever you reach for at the end of the day, this is a vessel shaped by the logic of use as much as craft. The "Tide" glaze — suggested in its Japanese name 潮 — evokes something coastal and quiet: the kind of finish that changes subtly depending on the light.
As with all Hechimon pieces, no two are identical. The name comes from a Shigaraki craftsman's word for things shaped by the wind — irregular, individual, and irreducibly handmade. Each cup is the work of a single potter making full use of their particular skills: a different hand, a different eye, a different result every time. More harvest than production line.
Made by Marui-Seito in Shigaraki Town, Shiga Prefecture — one of Japan's six ancient kiln traditions, with over 1,260 years of history and a national traditional craft designation since 1976.
Made in Japan. Approx. 9.5 × 9.5 × 8.5 cm, 340 ml capacity. Not suitable for microwave or dishwasher use. As each piece is handmade, dimensions, colour, and finish will vary slightly.
